Amor en tiempo de guerras

Just too much! Too much A.C.!

If it is hot outside and you are freezing inside, you know you are in USA.

Sincerely, I don't know how my body can deal with those incredible changes of temperatures. Outside it is sunny, warm and even hot! Inside it is so cold that I wished I had taken my winter coat and boots with me. Inside the metro, inside the library, inside the classroom, inside the supermarket, inside any place... Isn't it crazy?

Really I am freezing right now. I am going to become a polar bear or even a ice monument!

What a waste of energy!

During the winter, I was amazed by how cold NYC can become and how hot it can be inside the university walls. So, it is not rare to see students and school staff arriving with a big coat, gloves, scarf and hat and then entering the building they take out everything and wear a very summer outfit! What a contradiction! again what a waste of energy! Electric energy and human energy!

For me, it is worst during the summer. I have to carry coat and scarfs, and if I can, warmer shoes so I do not catch a cold due to A.C. And every time I can, I try to sabotage the A.C. And things get better at least until someone realizes the A.C is not working and then my nightmare begins again!

And it is not just me. Generally, international students like myself agree with me. So, let's face it, it is an American problem! I have been thinking that universities and libraries should provide some rooms without air-conditioning. In the other rooms, the staff should indicate the temperature inside the rooms and hopefully every room will have different temperatures, so students like me could choose the room they want to be while reading or typing their final papers or dissertations. Isn't it a great idea?

In the meanwhile, you know what? I wanna go home. Really!

Vacaciones por favor

No lo puedo evitar. Me estoy pasando todo el verano en un estudio en NY. Rodeada de libros y más libros. Y estoy empezando a echar de menos la playa, el verano, el tiempo libre, el sol, la arena, los picnics en la montaña... Joeeerrr y yo en NY intentando escribir mi tesina para mi maestría... Me encanta la temática, leer sobre ella, hablar y discutir sobre ella, pero estoy empezando a odiar el estar sola frente al ordenador y su página Word blanca con letritas negras... Me está empezando a deprimir. Estoy sufriendo de lo que llaman aquí "procrastination", que equivale al síndroma de dejarlo todo para el último momento, y eso incluye en mi caso martirizarse de ansiedad durante todo el proceso, o sea hasta el último momento...

Menos mal que pronto vamos de vacaciones. Lo que me pone en otro aprieto... quiero acabar esta tesina (por lo mínimo el primer borrador, porque mi orientador se ha quedado mudo hace ya más de un mes, lo que por supuesto me motiva muchísimo, como podéis imaginar....) antes de ir de vacaciones...
Y mientras sueño que estoy en la playa, nadando en el mar, tomandome un zumo de naranja con hielo con gafas de sol, vestidito y olor a protector solar (¡me encanta los que huelen a coco!), me acordé de una canción de Dido que hace muchísimo tiempo que no escuchaba... Sand in my shoes. El título es muy sugestivo. Aunque sin contexto hasta podríamos imaginar que la canción es sobre un paleta haciendo cimiento... jajaja Bueno el sentido de humor lo conservo, ehhh. Aquí va el videoclip...
Voy a hacer como Dido en el videoclip y pedir que me traigan un camión de arena, e invitar a Daniel a jugar al domino en medio de la calle cuando vuelva del curro...
Pero he decidido que no voy a llenar el baño de agua hasta los tobillos (aunque parece bien apetecíble y divertido) porque además del riesgo de conocer a la vecina del piso de abajo bien enfadada, me tocaría fregar después, y ¿para qué voy yo a peor mi situación, verdad?

Y después de todo, yo sigo aquí (y ahora me acordé de la canción de Paulina Rubio, y bueno hasta suena menos deprimente que mi "yo sigo aquí", jajaja, aunque dejadme decir que el videoclip - y la canción- es bastante deprimente, ufff ¡qué mal gusto! ¡Además esta mujer estaba anoréxica!)

Bueno, e iba diciendo que yo sigo aquí plantada en pijama delante del bendito ordenador...

Be crazy, be creative! Challenge the status quo! But with wisdom and respect. It is not about respecting status quo, it is about respecting others and change the status quo.

Let's move forward to a fairer world. Let's teach our kids that they can change the world. All we have around us, all the rules are social constructions and when unfair they need to be challenged!
In fact, things do not need to be unfair and full of prejudice! There is so much that we can do! We just need to open our imagination and do something that challenges the status quo, promotes social change and pursues a better world.

Conflict can be constructive. I learned a lot about that in a course I took some days ago. Conflict does not need to be violent or unfair, it can be positive and constructive. Conflict is everywhere, let's learn how to solve it. Let's introduce Conflict Resolution in our schools, in our trainings and in ours lives.

As Gandhi said "You must be the change you want to see in the world."

Let's be crazy! Let's be brave! Who said we have to work minimum 5 days a week? Who said we need to have a bachelor degree a master and a doctorate to be a great teacher or researcher? Who said we need to be rich to be happy? Who said what is beautiful and what is ugly? Who said we need to wear suits to be respected?
